Competing teams

Get ready to witness the brilliance of student innovation! The dedicated student teams have been hard at work, creating groundbreaking engineering projects. They’re gearing up to compete at both national and international levels. At the 2026 Engineering Design Showcase, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to see the latest iterations of their ongoing projects. Prepare to be amazed!



Atom Smashers (Esquimalt)

The Atom Smashers from Esquimalt High School focus on learning and developing skills in STEAM. They build and program robots for FIRST competitions, valuing problem-solving and teamwork. They’ve earned awards and competed internationally, continuing to gain valuable experience each year.

Dudley Dash (St. Margaret’s)

Dudley Dash is an all-girls robotics team at St. Margaret’s School, which aims to inspire a generation of girls to explore STEM and robotics. They value connection with the local and international community, while maintaining a balance between innovation and environmental-friendliness.

Exsurgo Nova

Exsurgo Nova is a student-led FTC robotics team bringing together students from high schools across Victoria. The team designs, builds, and programs robots for FIRST Tech Challenge competitions while fostering innovation, collaboration, and hands-on problem solving.

Fix it 3491

FIX IT is the oldest FIRST team on Vancouver Island and is a community team from the Victoria Makerspace. Recently, they were the Captain of the Winning Alliance at the FTC Invitational KDays competition in Edmonton.


MMA Robotics (Maria Montessori Academy)

MMA Robotics is a student-led FTC team focused on innovation, leadership, and creative problem-solving. Founded in 2024, the team integrates 3D printing and hands-on design while building a strong, supportive community.

Proton Pulverizers (Esquimalt)

The Proton Pulverizers from Esquimalt High School are a community-based FTC and FRC team that engages local teens in robotics. Members design, build, and program competitive FIRST robots while developing strong problem-solving and teamwork skills.

Reybots (Reynolds)

The Reynolds Reybots from Reynolds Secondary School build and program robots while promoting STEM in their community. Each season, the team works toward a shared goal, developing skills in collaboration, documentation, and creative problem-solving.

TURBO (St. Margaret’s)

Turbo is an all-girls robotics team at St. Margaret’s School, focused on leadership, teamwork, and STEM engagement. The team promotes robotics and empowers young women in the Victoria community through competition and outreach.


Aero

UVic AERO gives students hands-on experience in aeronautical engineering. Members design, build, and test a new aircraft each year to compete in national and international competitions, while developing skills in control systems, simulation, and manufacturing.

AUVIC

AUVIC designs and builds autonomous underwater vehicles for the international RoboSub competition. The interdisciplinary team develops mechanical, electrical, and software systems entirely in-house.

Concrete Canoe

The UVic Concrete Canoe Team designs, builds, and races a canoe made entirely of concrete. Competing nationally, the team focuses on innovative mix design, sustainability, and high-performance hull engineering.

UVEEC

UVEEC develops innovative solutions to local environmental challenges. Their current project, an autonomous underwater glider, collects ocean data to support research and improve community access to environmental information.


UVic Formula Hybrid

UVic Formula Hybrid designs and builds a hybrid open-wheel race car for international competition. The team blends gas and electric systems while gaining interdisciplinary experience in high-performance vehicle design.

UVic Formula Racing (UVFR)

UVic Formula Racing designs, builds, and competes with a formula-style race car in the annual Formula SAE competition. Team members gain hands-on experience in design, manufacturing, and performance testing.

UVic Rocketry

UVic Rocketry provides students with hands-on experience in rocket design, testing, and manufacturing. Members apply engineering concepts in a practical setting while building skills and a passion for aerospace.

UVic Robotics

The UVic Robotics Club designs and programs robots to compete in the Canadian International Rover Challenge. Students from engineering and computer science gain hands-on experience in robotics, teamwork, and problem-solving.


UVic Satellite Design

UVSD builds and tests small satellites for national competitions and real-world launches. As part of the MARMOTSat Partnership, the team prepares students for careers in aerospace through hands-on design and mission development.

UVic Submarine Racing Club

UVSRC designs, builds, and races a human-powered submarine at international competitions. The team develops strong research, technical, and manufacturing skills while gaining valuable experience in marine engineering.

VikeLabs

VikeLabs is a collective of students who learn to build, deploy and test software apps quickly. The group views UVic as a kind of laboratory for testing solutions to problems that exist within the campus community.

WEST

WEST is a student-led UVic group that empowers female-identifying students through real-world design projects and industry partnerships. Members gain hands-on technical experience while building skills that support long-term career growth.


Camosun Robotics and Automation Club

RAC gives students hands-on experience in robotics and automation through real-world projects. Members build skills in prototyping, control systems, and electrical design while exploring multiple engineering disciplines.
