Employee Spotlight: Alec MacMillan

Alec MacMillan

This month’s employee spotlight features Alec MacMillan, the Mechanical Design Lead at Rainhouse. Alec is a UVic Alumni with a degree in mechanical engineering. His passion for creative problem-solving and hands-on innovation drives some of Rainhouse’s most exciting and technically complex projects. With a talent for turning ideas into functional designs and prototypes, he plays a key role in shaping the solutions we deliver to our clients.

We asked Alec a few questions to get to know him better, and here is what he had to say.

What do you do at Rainhouse?

I am the Mechanical Design Lead at Rainhouse. I do a variety of things, but at a high level I do 3D design (CAD), project management and prototype assembly. In addition to that I work with my team and our customers to deliver the best work we can. I like to think of it as designing and building cool stuff.

What do you enjoy most about working at Rainhouse?

I enjoy a good challenge, so problem solving and coming up with efficient solutions is probably my favourite part of the job. On top of that, the people I work with every day are great to be around which makes everything more enjoyable.

How many projects have you participated in?

I have worked on many projects over the years, so it is tough to say how many. I am always looking for something new and challenging to take on.

What project has been your favourite so far?

It’s difficult to pick a favourite, but I can say some of the best projects to be a part of are the ones you can’t talk about.

What is the ONE THING you cannot live without?

Family. But a close second would be the two cups of coffee I have every morning.
